Web App, Mobile App, or Both — What Should You Build First?
"Should I build a website or an app?" is one of the most common questions I get. Building both at once doubles your cost and time, and you usually don't need to. Here's a simple way to decide.
Start with a web app if…
- You need to be found on Google (a phone app can't rank in search).
- Users will visit occasionally, not every day.
- You want one version that works on every device instantly.
- Budget is tight — a web app is usually cheaper to start.
Start with a mobile app if…
- Users open it frequently (daily habits, ordering, tracking).
- You need push notifications, camera, GPS or offline use.
- Being on the Play Store / App Store adds trust for your audience.
The smart middle path
For most Bangladeshi businesses, I recommend starting with a fast, mobile-friendly web app. It's cheaper, gets you on Google, and works on every phone. Then, once you have real users who come back often, build a mobile app — and reuse the same backend, which saves a lot of money.
