Land measurement in Bangladesh, made simple

Buying, selling or splitting land in Bangladesh means juggling units that don't appear anywhere else — Shotangsho (Decimal/Shotok), Katha and Bigha alongside square feet and acres. This land area calculator removes the guesswork: enter a plot's length and width and it returns the area in every unit at once, so you can cross-check a dalil, a deed or a broker's claim in seconds.

The core rule is easy: area in square feet divided by 435.6 gives Decimal (Shotok). From there, 1 Katha = 720 sq ft, 1 Bigha = 20 Katha, and 1 Acre = 100 Decimal. You can even measure length in Hat (হাত) and width in feet — the tool converts both before calculating. Use the Convert mode to turn any single value, like 5 Katha, straight into Decimal, Bigha or square feet.

Common questions

How do I calculate Decimal (Shotok) from length and width?

Multiply length by width to get the area in square feet, then divide by 435.6. For example, 50 ft × 40 ft = 2,000 sq ft ÷ 435.6 ≈ 4.59 Decimal (Shotok). This calculator does it instantly and also shows Katha, Bigha and Acre.

How many square feet is 1 Decimal / Shotok?

1 Decimal (Shotangsho / Shotok) = 435.6 square feet, which is exactly 1/100 of an acre. So 1 Acre = 100 Decimal = 43,560 sq ft.

How many square feet in 1 Katha and 1 Bigha?

By the standard Bangladesh measure, 1 Katha = 720 sq ft and 1 Bigha = 20 Katha = 14,400 sq ft (about 33 Decimal). These can vary by region, so confirm locally for legal documents.

Can I measure in Hat (হাত) or Gaz?

Yes. Choose your unit for length and width independently — Feet, Hat (cubit = 1.5 ft), Gaz (yard = 3 ft), Meter or Inch. The calculator converts everything for you, which is handy for rural plots measured in Hat.

Is this land calculator free and accurate?

It's completely free and runs in your browser. The conversions use standard Bangladesh land measures and are accurate for everyday estimates. For official records, always verify with your local land office, as Katha/Bigha can differ regionally.
