What it is
S3 is the object storage that defined the category. Durable, infinitely scalable and supported by literally every library and tool. The catch is egress pricing — moving data out gets expensive, which is exactly why R2 exists.

Why I use it
Still the safest default if a client is already deep in AWS. For greenfield projects I pick R2 to dodge egress costs.
